A Message from the Chairman

For more than 20 years now, the IWSM has been a referent for the latest applications of Statistics. Therefore, it's a pleasure to be the Chairman of the 22th edition that will take place in Barcelona. Our city is an example of multiculturality, multilingualism and diversity. We hope that you will enjoy walking around its streets and meeting its people. The characteristics we mentioned are also the characteristics that the IWSM has reflected throughout its history. Our desire is to continue in the tradition of these workshops, although giving this one our particular approach.

Our purpose is to encourage students, especially, to attend to this workshop, since they are the future of Statistics. This is why we have a special registration fee for students and we have awards designed for them. We also hope that the Short Course will interest them.

For this workshop, submissions are especially encouraged in the following areas: Statistics in Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Agriculture, Compositional Data Analysis, Interval Censoring, Latent Variable Models, modern Bayesian Methods, Longitudinal Data Analysis, Small Area Estimation and Mixed Effects models. However, more general papers that illustrate several statistical responses to modern issues are also encouraged.

The scientific programme is characterised by having 6 invited lectures, contributed papers, and posters. Contributed papers should be suitable for a 20 minute oral presentation. According to the tradition of the IWSM, there are no parallel sessions and, hence, the number of contributed papers sessions is small. Owing to that, the posters sessions will be carried out in such a way that the posters get plenty of attention and give presenters a full opportunity to interact with conference attendees.

I hope that all participants will enjoy the workshop and their stay in a friendly atmosphere. I look forward to seeing you in Barcelona, next July.

IWSM 2007, more than a workshop...

Sincerely,
