In the same way as I did in RAY, I will create the history of this game KELLER season by season. I really enjoyed it last time, just guessing who was telling true and who was lying. Sometimes, I got it, others I failed. Let us try it once more. Let us start: S1901M Whow!! The orders have not reached me completely, but the level of comunications is incredible. Everybody is talking with a lot of people and many times. All opennings seem to be studied, grey press is growing suspicions, and you put my job to guess who is lying very difficult. Well, from all you have said, I think that the only alliance which will start working is the JUGGERNAUT. Even all the mailings between EGAT about crushing Russia, I believe more the ones from Turkey to Russia proposing the deadly alliance. Moreover, in this game, unlike in RAY, no JUGGERNAUT shout has been heard, and if nobody suspects it, they will not do it after S1901M because nobody will see BLA and ARM. Austria has done a very nice diplomatic start, but his survival will depend highly on the time when he realise the JUGGERNAUT and in the way he publishes it. The less diplomatic player has been Italy. True that he had some mail problems, but they are already solved. He also can delay a bit his diplomacy, if, as I expect, he moves towards France. This does not bother Austria as he thinks about AGET, but when he sees RT, he will need as much help as possible. At this time, when blind rules have been completely understood, every one knows that Russia may move MOS - STP in S1901 and deny NOR to England without the british having even a clue. I think he will do it. About the west, I think the odd man will be France. He has expresed his intentions over Belgium, and has warned England and Germany. Almost all the powers have also realised about the utility of the information which may be provided by far countries. So I think that we will see frienship relations between Russia and Italy, France and Russia, France and Austria, Turkey and Germany, and others. Now the key point is if the information will be reliable or not. Soon we will have the complete set of orders. We will see then. Well, I do not have yet resolved the orders. Some SET WAIT's still hold me from doing it. Meanwhile, Austria has perfectely realised of the existence of the JUGGERNAUT. Wonderful from him! But also painful. What to do now? Even more, he will not be able to confirm it in S1901M as he will not see BLA and ARM. Most possible Russia will shout "TURKS IN ARMENIA", and Austria will have to decide if that is true or not. Now Austria knows that Italy will turn west, so his only help is Germany. Very cunningly, Austria has passed (through grey press) to France the same set of movements that almost killed him (as England) in RAY with F MAO HOLD in F1901. Maybe someone decides to change his mind during the weekend. There have not been any changes. Then situation is like this: France has realised all three neighbours have moved against him. Russia and Turkey form the Juggernaut and claim to be at war. No turkish army in ARM. Austria in the dark. All other movements are quite standard, well, except the italian opening, never seen such a run west so soon. F1901M Well, well, well. I have been the first surprised by the turkish attack into Sevastopol. Russia is in problems. I wonder if Turkey had already decided it long ago or he changed his mind in the last moment. In my opinion, his mails to Russia seemed very sincere while the ones to Austria and Germany appeared suspicious. France is the other nation with problems, but he already knew it last season. England has sliced into MID and has a clear option into Iberia. If Italy allows England to take Iberia, then his election of an enemy would have been wrong. Italy should only help Germany and England against France in exchange of MAR+SPA+POR. The other funny position has been Russia getting SWE and NOR. Well, this will allow him to concentrate on the south. S1902M First discrepancies has appeared between Austria and Turkey. This does not seem an alliance to last much more. Russia has been assured peace in the north so that he can deal with the south, but a german fleet in BAL does not confirm this. The other power with problems is France. Being attacked on three sides he has no chances to survive. The problem is that three are to many to split the spoils. If Italy does not get at least 2 from MAR-SPA-POR, then he has done a bad business. F1902M First alliance broken, Germany has stabbed England in Belgium and has also convinced Russia about putting a fleet in Norway. France is the first power being reduced from its initial size, and is the first candidate to be eliminated, but the upcoming war between England and Germany may keep him alive for a while. Moreover, his other enemy, Italy, meets now with a turkish fleet in ION, so he will need to send back a couple of units. The worst for Italy is not the fleet, but the support from Austria received by it. Austria has achieved his main objective, not being the first defeated as it usually happens. Nice for him, but at which prize. Now, SEV-RUM-SER are at easy reach from Turkey, and keeping armies there will be a clear menace also, so he cannot turn north savely. How difficult is the AT alliance! I wonder who will be the stabber. S1903M We have had some problems with the judge at this time, and we have decided to move to the USCA judge. About the game, Turkey has entered the ION and Austria has also moved towards Italy. Also Germany has moved into TYR, in principle against Italy, but the disband of his army of GAS in front of EF will make him change his objectives. England and France have joined this time. F1903M A lot, lot of mail this season, maybe to compensate the problems with mail in the last season. Turkey and Austria have definetively stabbed Italy, but the help of Germany has prevented Austria from entering VEN. On his own, France and England have stabbed each other, and Russia and Germany have joined against England. At this time, the game is really complicated, and the only stable alliance I see now is AT. S1904M Surprinsingly, England has got MAR from Italy in an uncoordinate movement. I doubt he may leave it now, at least by will. He needs that build in order to secure home. This time he has showed cold-blooded and has hold in YOR, exactely where the german convoy was directed. The other interesting point of action is Italy. Turkey has secured his beach-head there and now Italy is almost dead. Pity for Austria who cannot take his assigned Venice because of the colaboration of Germany. Strange behaviour of Germany who started fighting with France, then turned to England, and now is getting hostilities with Austria. It is not sane for a central power having such policies. F1904M Well, we may consider we have the first defeated power. Italy is down to 1, and he will not keep it for long as nobody may help him to hold TUN in front of the turkish navy. France has saved himself from occpying this place. The interesing situation corresponds to Germany. Old enemy of France, stabber of England, stabber of Austria, is now stabbed by Russia. Luckily for him, his army in KIE had nothing better to do than defending DEN. The only unconditional friend of Germany has been Italy, as even Turkey has opposed German wishes. Either his diplomacy works hard, or he may even advance France as second power defeated. English position is also curious: three centers at home and three around Iberia. Two separated standard powers, and the last in his mind is joining them through BRE-PAR, he has enough problems with RG in the north and maybe Turkey in the south. Anyway, France may like to recover his homeland. The border between Russia and Austria is becoming wider with GAL-SIL. This war has not ended, but the tie remains assured and it depends only of the friends they may catch. We may see a shifting of centers with maintenance of balance. S1905M Germany has turned onto Russia. Now England is relieved from pressure and he may decide his new objective. I think he will turn again onto France. Turkey has end up his job in Italy, whose only unit seeks for suplies in the Atlantic. Russia and Austria have exchanged WAR - SEV. Now that Germany joins the party, the fate of Russia turns grey. F1905M Nice changes. Italy still survives by taking POR from England. Germany culminates the stab on Russia by taking SWE while Russia disembarks in England. But the nicest is the turkish stab onto Austria. It seems that Turkey thinks that Iberia is to far and preferes the quick win. We will see if this path may lead to victory. My experience says that it may become very difficult for Turkey to enter the Atlantic late in the war, and this may mean a draw. I think that Russia will regret his disembark in England. Now that he could count with turkish help, he has got one more enemy, and he has also moved one unit far from home. Of course, England will also have a lot of problems to defeat such army only with fleets. S1906M The nicest action in this season is, without any doubt, the english convoy from PIC to BRE, jumping over the french order BRE - PIC "supported" by the german army in Belgium. I wonder if France will realise that he has been cheated by Germany, or he will think that simply England has outguessed him. Russia does not seem willing to colaborate against Turkey, but Turkey is also having problems in his advance towards Austria. If Austria has freedom enough from their northern neighbors, he can still defend quite well. We already have a russian army in LVP. And it is unmoveble this next season. Will England compensate it with BRE, or will he want a build, even if it comes from Italy (who now stops Turkey from entering the Atlantic)? F1906 I did already write this comment but it was lost with the crash of my computer in December. I do not remember what I wrote, so I will have to do it again. Italy survives one year more. All seven powers alive in 1906, interesting, but there are two reduced to a single unit. Russia recovers from his wounds and grows up to 5, but he is splitted in two different battle fields. Turkey consolidates his position, and Austria is having a lot of problems. Germany is the key point. He carries a lot of Diplomacy, but I think he has too many things to deal with. He would like to stop Turkey while eating one neighbour, but which. S1907M Russia is not for the anti-turkish alliance and continues attacking England and Germany. Luckily for them, Germany has also stabbed Russia. Now Warsaw is again in austrian hands and STP may easily fall next season. England has lost a season, as he has trusted Russia and has not stabbed France. But at least, the coordination against Turkey has arrived and he has got denied the MAO. Interesting if the JUGGERNAUT starts his coordination in the west. And most curious, Rumania seems to be ignored this season. I doubt it may continue next one. F1907M Finally we have a defeated power. France did not count on english plans to face Turkey and Russia and decided for the stab. Let we see if France holds his word and passes every info to Turkey. England has played well cutting the russian support into MID. He has done even more harm than he imagines as Turkey now does not trust Russia having ordered such support. He even may suspect that Russia is not in NAO. Germany offered a center to England to compensate from EDI and another possible lost which has not produced. The fact of England building an army was accepted in order to kick Russia from the islands. But England did not trust Germany and decided to take DEN instead of BEL which was the one offered. This did not like to Germany, and even he seems to have accepted it, he may take that into account later. Russia decides to play hard and disbands in UKR instead of England. On his own, Turkey meets a wall, even worse, an advancing wall, as Germany enters into PIE. S1908M Finally we have had abandonement problems. Austria has disappeared without giving any notice. I have kicked him off and punished him with 100 dedication points. We have managed to find another replacement but all this has taken us about one month and a half, also because I was in a university trip when Austria was missed and I could not order for a replacement from outside home. Even worse, also Germany is missed. During his last mails he already warned us that he was having serious troubles with connection. He was a very dedicated player, and also he was a master in another blind game. He is also missed there as far as I know, so I really fear that he has lost definetively his acces to the net. As I had orders from Germany, I have had to accept them as the judge would have done. In the game aspect, we have seen Germany taking Venice from Turkey and Turkey taking Budapest from Austria. It seems that nothing has changed in this aspect. All the powers has acted as they used to, but this is not surprinsingly as most of the orders were given one and a half month ago. Maybe next season may be more interesting as they will have to remake their policies, or remind old ones. F1908 As expected, Germany has also lost contact with us, and we have needed a new player. We have got it. And now to the game: The most important fact on this season has been the heavy defeat of Russia. He has lost completely his stronghold in England and also Moscow. The help of Germany in both points has been critical to achieve this. Now Russia is a puppet on Turkey's hands. Turkey has recovered VEN from Germany, so it has not changed hands finally, and has won BUD from Austria which compensates this lose with MOS. Also Germany has recovered DEN from England now that England has full control of his homeland. In definitive, Russia loses 3 which are finally won by the big three powers (Turkey, Germany and England). Now it will be interesting to see what happens with them, as Austria, even with three, is completely misplaced. S1909 Well, it seems that the new german player has new ideas, and these ideas, are not pleasant to Austria. He has just stabbed him and taken MOS and WAR without any chance of recovery next Fall. He has also taken MAR from England. There seems to be an agreement that England would take HOL or BEL in exchange, but if I were England, I would chose for Belgium, and I would support such action from BUR. Otherwise, HEL may void HOL and RUH may void BEL. A pity that Russia has not supported the turkish army into UKR. If he does not colaborate with Turkey, Turkey will eat him, and then he will assure for ever the position in SEV and support to UKR. I am pretty sure that Turkey will do it. If not, he is going to lose a nice chance. F1909 An interesteing season. As expected, Germany has consolidated his gains in Russia, and England has not trusted Germany, so he has supported himself into Belgium. Also, as I predicted, Turkey was fed up with Russia and has taken Sevastopol. Now Russia is gone, the second one, but we can also lose Italy this season. The interesting point is around Spain. Germany seemed that he wanted to give it to Turkey in the next year, but not yet. Anyway, Turkey has managed to get it by himself. So Turkey is two up, and quite close to 18. Now, it comes the key point: England has a single possible retreat from Spain "PORTUGAL", but if he takes it, Italy will disappear. I wonder what England will do. In most cases I would vote by taking it. Other fleet will substitute the italian one in MID, but the main problem is that the english unit in the Iberian Peninsula is an army, not a fleet. Having a army in Portugal, and losing the italian fleet in MID is equivalent to lose control of MID next season. I think it is better for England to simply lose his army. S1910 The discrepancies between Germany and England may allow the turkish victory. England has recovered Spain, but with no assurances to hold it next Fall. The price has been that Germany has lost Marseilles, end even worse, the army there has been disbanded. So, one unit less to deal with next Fall. Turkey has also managed to enter in Tyrolia and Galicia, so he has finally the homeland of Germany at sight. Not that he can do any harm there, but Germany will need to consider holding his army in Munich. Given his position and the pasivity of Austria, it is perfectely possible that Vienna may have the same end as SEV. The problem for Turkey is the usual one. If he cannot enter the Atlantic, he will not be able to win. Unless he manages to force an open war between England and Germany... F1910 As predicted, Turkey has got rid of Austria. It is perfectely logical. Had Austria supported turkish actions there, he would have survived, at least some longer, but this way, Turkey prefers to have there an active unit. Now Turkey is at 16, but what else he can do? The stalemate line is not yet perfect, but there is not a clear way to advance. So, if England and Germany play right, this is going to be a 3-way draw. But, will they do? The german fleets in NWS and NTS are claimed to go to help locking the Atlantic. They may do it or may not. It is clear that they are not needed there. But Germany will play stupidily if he stabs England. He is too far from victory (and Turkey too close) so England may easily give victory to Turkey at the first sight of treachery. S1911 Little changes everywhere, a turkish army destroyed in Bohemia in exchange of Galicia, and bounces at most places. Almost all indicates that Germany and England will stalemate Turkey, EXCEPT that NWG - CLY. Germany has quickly apologised for it being a mistake, but I wonder if it really was. Next season is Fall. Any other "mistake" can mean a breakdown of the coalition against Turkey, and most possibly, a turkish victory. F1911 Just a permutation in SPA-MAR. England has locked the Atlantic, and maybe the most interesting point has been Turkey vacating VIE and gifting it to Germany. However, the kaiser did not believe Turkey and he has not taken it. He can do it next season quite easily. The only interesting point is that the hostilities between England and Germany seem to be halted. However, I would not feel very confortable as England with those german fleets around (and nothing to win in the short time). The decition of Turkey is highly argueable, and its convenience or not cannot be decided now. I read from turkish brain that he expects Germany to grow one or two centers, until Germany thinks that he can win by stabbing England, and then England would turn against the stabber giving victory to Turkey. However, Turkey must be very careful so he can hold a stalemate line against both EG, or he can find that these two may break his lines giving victory to Germany as he is much better arranged than England. In any case, we are either close to a draw (of 3), or we are starting a long tactical battle in which we will see quite a lot of movements and changes of centers. S1912 Absolutely nothing to mention. Complete block out in the Gibraltar Strait with no hopes of breakdown, and a lot of unneedded supports everywhere. Finally Germany has taken the present of VIENNA given by Turkey, but this will not mean any improvement towards a solution. Maybe now Turkey has a weak point in PIE-MAR, but he can easily lose it without danger to his main line. German fleets remain unconfortably close to english shores. The temptation is great, but the danger of a turkish victory is even greater. F1912 The only remarcable fact has been the fall of Marseilles. As Turkey allowed Germany into TYR, the fate of MAR was written. All other movements have bounced (except some rearrangements in Central Europe). The interesting point is close. Will Germany stab England? Which will be the consequences? W1912 I do not usually comment adjustments but this time there is something interesting. Germany promised Turkey that he would build a fleet this year but he has built an army in Munich. He has not said anything about it to Turkey now, so not to lie, but hoping that Turkey things he has done the opposite. Well, the case is that France is passing all his info to Turkey, and now the turk knows that Germany is not to trust. S1913 Turkey seems to want the 3-way draw. Germany continues trying the turk border, and the only real movement has been a switch army-fleet in Spain. F1913 First round with no moment. Everything bounced. It seems that Turkey really holds a stalemate line. And Turkey is also pretty sure that Germany has not stabbed England. Germany and England could try a smock war simulating that Germany has stabbed England, but it would be quite difficult to hide the truth from France, that is from Turkey. S1914 Turkey holds his line while England and Germany misunderstand and both attack Piedmont. Or not?! Maybe Germany does not want England to enter there. In fact they cannot know that they will never enter there. F1914 Germany is tricky!!! Now he supports England into Piedmont, but he supports an army there instead of a fleet, so his order is voided. If asked, I guess he will mention a silly mistake. But there is more: the german fleet in North Sea has taken Belgium from England. The fleet in the Norwegian has hold (not moved to EDI), so I guess that Germany will "blame" himself in front of England for his "miswritting" (bel...hel). I doubt England will accept so many mistakes. I guess he may perfectely gift the game to Turkey. Come on, Turkey, if you get the info from France, this is the chance you were waiting. S1915 A long delay here. The german player has left us and we have needed to find a replacement. Regarding the game, Turkey is playing a bluff and he retreats from the western Med, trying to suggest a war between England and Germany. But the new german player has clearly understood the situation and does nothing against England, and everything against Turkey, without success of course. England and Germany have cleverly realised that the previous conflict in Belgium has little to deal with. It does not matter who holds Belgium. S1916 A new very long delay. We have lost the english player. Finally we have a new one. No news in the German-Turklish front, but the new english player has interesting ideas. Now there is an english fleet in "reconaisense" mission in NWS and there are two more fleets in the MED. Turkey does not seem very pleased. F1916 There has been a new draw proposal from all players. But Turkey has vetoed his own proposal. So the war continues and now the key point lays on England who does not seem to be sure who has been the vetoer. He has just withdrawn from the Med and has moved into NTS just to see that there are 3 german fleets around. This may force him to think that Germany is the one who does not want peace, and it will make the war more interesting. On the other side, Turkey has evacuated Budapest, but Germany didn't imagine such and he has not taken it. Let us see next season. Turkey is playing a very risky game, but it is clear that he does not want a draw at all, and he prefers to risk a german victory if he also has a chance to win. S1917 The turkish policy may bring some consequences. By the moment, he has lost Budapest in german hands, and England has positioned three fleets close to the North Sea. Now I expect to see some angry letter from Turkey to England claiming the german perfidy and asking for a quick help. F1917 Turkey has got it. England has stabbed Germany. He has taken Belgium, so Germany will not build because of Budapest. Moreover, now the Kaiser faces units in Ruhr, Belgium, Burgundy, North Sea and Helgoland Bight. Holland is in serious troubles, and if Turkey starts attacking from the south, Germany will not have units enough to deal with all this. S1918 Germany has mailed Turkey saying that England has stabbed him, and that the Kaiser will give the game to the Sultan. I would say it is a logical thing to do, but I think that Germany should also have mailed England explaining the big mistake he has just done. There is no such mail, and so England remains in the dark about the consequences of his action. F1918 This is just a military exersice which can only end in the turkish victory. Turkey has no time enough to win in this year, specially because in S1918 Turkey did not take any action against Germany yet. He has waited until now to start moving towards Germany. On the other side, England faces all the german units and he cannot make any progress. S1919 England remains ignorant about what is happening. Germany does not tell him anything, and Turkey encourages that he is doing right. Germany vacates more centers which go to turkish hands. The game will end this year for sure. F1919 Finally it is done. Turkey has got his 18th center, and he has even allowed himself the caprice of attacking Munich (although he has not got it) thus showing England the mistake he did. FINAL COMMENT This has been a very long game. Almost 2 years in rel time. The first files are dated 30 Agu 1995. I would split the game in two main parts: Until 1911 the game was an interesting standard game with a lot of stabs and changes of alliances which lead to only 3 players remaining with no clear victory for any of them. At that moment, Turkey realised that his only chances of winning were that England and Germany started a war between them and made his first trick, the present of VIENNA. The second part has been a struggle war of nerves and patience with Turkey encouraging still the war and vetoing the draws that he himself proposed. I must say that Turkey tactics have proved succesful but I want to remark that he has needed the change of the english player to got it. He had a hope when Germany changed ruler in 1916 but the new german player immediately realised that draw was the only option. So, only when England changed ruler in 1917 he had new blood who could be convinced that Germany was bigger than him. I wonder if the last english player did read all the history I send to him. Well, in a standard Diplomacy game, this would have been much more difficult to do. I am now sending to you this EOG report also with the summary of the game. I also own a zip file with all the status of the game, and another zip file with all the mails sent among players. As this are very long files, I will only send them to those who wish to receive them. Just one detail, as the game has been gunboat, none of you knew the identity of other players. Well, Turkey was ruled by E. Austin who happen to be the player who also won BLIND, the first blind game I mastered. So, he seems to be quite an expert in this variant. I would like to receive your EOG reports to prepare the final summary. Joan C. Artes Master of the blind game KELLER signoff
