Admission requirements
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in mathematics or a closely related field.
Candidates must apply for admission at the Mathematics Department using the
admission form.
Credits
Students must pass 32 credits organized as follows:
- Lecturing period: 20 credits (usually in 2 academic years), corresponding to 200 hours of courses (10h per credit).
At least 15 credits must be fundamental, and 5 of them can be complementary.
- Research period: 12 credits corresponding to a research work.
The choice of courses must be supervised by a tutor.
Once this period is achieved successfully, students obtain a Master in Initiation to Research in Mathematics.
"Suficiència investigadora" (Research ability) and Ph. D. Thesis
After having passed the 32 credits, Research Ability will be accredited by a committee in a
public session, where the applicant will expose the knowledge acquired. This committee will be
proposed by the Department of Mathematics, and nominated by the Doctorate Commission of the
Universitat Autònoma de
Barcelona. Students with this Research Ability can realize the Ph. D. Thesis in the department.
Regulation
The Doctorate Program follows the general rules of the
Escola de Doctorat i Formació Continuada of the
UAB and the resolutions of the Mathematics Department.
